The United States also demands an investigation into possible violations

The president of Georgia has called on the citizens of the country to take to the streets on Monday for a large demonstration.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Sunday that he supports an investigation into possible election violations in Georgia’s general election.

Blinken said in a statement that the United States agrees with requests by international and local observers to investigate all reports of election-related violations.

– The people of Georgia embraced democracy yesterday. Now Georgia’s political leaders must respect the rule of law, repeal legislation that undermines fundamental freedoms, correct the flaws in the election process, and move Georgia toward a Euro-Atlantic future, Blinken wrote on the X messaging service.

In the elections held on Saturday, a party close to Russia called Georgian Dream won. The opposition and the pro-Western president of the country Salome Zurabishvili have not accepted the result of the election, but have claimed it as fake.

Zurabishvili urged the country’s citizens to take to the streets on Monday for a large demonstration. According to him, Russia is behind the falsification of the elections.

– We are witnesses and victims of a Russian special operation. It is a modern form of hybrid war against the Georgian people, Zurabishvili said.

Also the President of the European Council Charles Michel called on the messaging service X for the Georgian authorities to quickly, transparently and independently investigate the allegations of election fraud.
