The union’s criticism after the escape: “Security hole found – could happen again quite soon”

At least two masked perpetrators freed a person from a correctional transport in Södertälje on Thursday. Within the Correctional Service there is now a concern that more releases may take place. – If you don’t take it seriously and change the way you think about transport, it could happen again quite soon, says Marcus Carlström, chairman of Seko. The exemption occurred in connection with a dentist’s visit in central Södertälje just before ten o’clock on Thursday morning. It is the second release in a short time – both times it happened during a visit to the hospital. – It is a certain consternation but not entirely surprising considering what happened in Norrköping not so long ago. We have understood that a security hole has been found in the Prison Service’s transport, says Marcus Carlström, chairman of Seko. “Could happen again quite soon” Now the risk is high that it will happen again, says Carlström. – If you don’t take it seriously and change the way you think about transport within the Correctional Service, it could happen again quite soon. It was when the Probation Service’s transporters arrived at the dentist’s office that a car pulled up alongside. Then several masked people jumped out and took the teenage boy at gunpoint. “Is there a dentist’s room at the institution” Do you really need to be transported to a dentist, can’t you solve it in another way? – There are fully equipped dental rooms in many institutions and detention centers in Sweden. It would often be easier to take the dentist to the client, so that possibility exists today, says Carlström. Why it is still chosen to transport clients to medical appointments is unclear. – I don’t feel that there is a good explanation for why it is done this way. I have pointed out that there are big risks with us showing up with painted cars, we stand out.
