The unexpected outcome of Armand Duplantis – the rival is brutally honest about the Swedish world star: “Mondo was an asshole…”

Armand Duplantis is by far the world’s best pole vaulter.
Now the rival Kurtis Marschall comes up with an unexpected move.
– I would have loved if Mondo was an asshole, he says to SVT.

Recent years have Armand Duplantis completely dominated the sport of pole vaulting. He has racked up gold medals and broken world records on a treadmill.

Duplanti’s greatness

24-year-old “Mondo” is not ready for it either and has his sights set on new medals and more records. But what is it really like to be a competitive pole vaulter when competing against superior Duplantis.
– We are all good friends and we hang out with each other outside the competitions. Everyone is a little bit alike, you have to be a little crazy to do pole vaulting, admits the WC bronze medalist Kurtis Marshall for SVT.

The Australian is in Sweden to compete against the Swedish world star during the “Mondo Classics” in Uppsala on Tuesday evening. And then comes up with an unexpected statement about his great rival.
– I would have loved if Mondo was an asshole, Marschall says in the interview with a smile and a twinkle in his eye.
– It is better for everyone that we are such good friends. If you hate each other, you are at full throttle and you can lose yourself. Now we go out and have fun and you do it for yourself and not for the pressure of trying to beat others. You just try to be as good as you can and jump as high as possible.

Mondo Classics

Armand Duplantis is the reigning champion at the Olympics, WC and EC and has broken seven straight world records. But still, competing against him in the pole vault is not completely frustrating and futile.
– Absolutely not. The way he pushes the sport puts it in a positive light. The fact that he is at the same time such a talented athlete and such a good guy means that he pushes the sport in the right direction for everyone, says the Olympic silver medalist Chris Nilsen to the TV channel.
