The UN General Assembly starts in New York Antonio

Finland is represented at the meeting by President Sauli Niinistö. He will talk about the early evening later.

Heads of state and ministers will gather today in New York, where the 77th high-level week of the UN General Assembly will begin.

The agenda includes, among other things, the global effects of Russia’s war of aggression on energy and food security.

Secretary General of the UN Antonio Gueterres will give a speech at 16:00 Finnish time.

Finland is represented at the meeting by the president Sauli Niinistö. He will give Finland’s national speech at the general assembly in the early evening Finnish time.

In addition, the president will give a video speech at a high-level event preparing for the UN Conference on Biodiversity (COP-15), informs the Office of the President of the Republic.

Today, President Niinistö will also participate in the high-level event of the Christchurch appeal against terrorism and extremism and the meeting of the group of friends of the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.

The President’s program in New York also includes bilateral meetings.

The Finnish General Assembly delegation also includes the Minister of Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto (green), Minister of Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari (sd) and the Minister of Education Lee Andersson (left).
