The UN General Assembly demands Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine immediately and unconditionally. It passed a resolution calling for withdrawal by a vote of 141-7. In addition, China, India and 30 other countries abstained from voting.

In addition to Russia, the resolution was opposed by Belarus, North Korea, Eritrea, Mali, Nicaragua and Syria.

The session of the UN General Assembly started late last night Finnish time. Secretary General of the UN Antonio Guterres in his speech yesterday characterized the Russian attack as a dark milestone for Ukrainians and the international community.

Before the start of the session of the General Assembly, the wife of the President of Ukraine Olena Zelenska spoke to high-level diplomats via video link and called for the creation of a separate international court to try Russia’s crimes.

In October, 143 UN member states condemned Russia’s announcement to annex the territories of Ukraine it had occupied.
