The officer is said to have taken care of logistics and support for the six-person team that took the explosive to the gas pipeline at the bottom of the sea.
A Ukrainian officer played a key role when the Nord Stream gas pipelines running on the bottom of the Baltic Sea were damaged in an explosion, claims the US The Washington Post magazine (WP). The magazine has investigated the matter in cooperation with a German Der Spiegel with.
The newspaper says it bases its news on several anonymous official sources in Ukraine and Europe, as well as other parties who know about the matter. According to WP, the 48-year-old officer in question has deep ties to the Ukrainian intelligence services.
WP writes that the officer worked in the Ukrainian special forces. The newspaper claims that the officer took care of logistics and support for the six-person team that took the explosive to the gas pipeline at the bottom of the sea.
The gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 running from Russia to Germany were badly damaged in explosions in September 2022.
WP believes that the information it has collected is the most direct link to date between the armed forces and security authorities of Ukraine and the gas pipeline explosions. The officer in question denies that he was involved in the explosions and says that the accusations against him are Russian propaganda.
