Tensions between two star egos are not uncommon in film productions. However, the dispute between Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road escalated to such an extent that Theron demanded protection.

What is Mad Max: Fury Road about?
Max Rockatansky, better known as Mad Max (Tom Hardy), is on the run. Together with a group of survivors, he thunders through the desert in a semi-trailer converted into a tank, driven by Emperor Furiosa (Charlize Theron). They are being pursued by degenerate outlaws in heavily armed desert cars. A bitter war breaks out on the streets.

“They didn’t want to look at each other”: This is how the fight between Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron went
The atmosphere within the crew also suffered from the extreme conditions during the Mad Max shoot, as is well known. And mega-star duo Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy didn’t like each other anyway. The book, Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road *, revealed details of their argument, some of which were shocking.
A crew member said it was obvious to everyone that “that these two people hated each other. They didn’t want to touch, they didn’t want to look at each other, they didn’t want to turn to each other when the camera wasn’t rolling.”
So far the relationship was still acceptable. A line was crossed when Tom Hardy became increasingly threatening towards Theron. However, this point was preceded by a spiral of escalation. Hardy, according to the reports, drove Theron crazy with regular indiscipline. One day Hardy came “Despite special request” three hours late for the set. A crew member described the actress’ reaction:
Tom shows up and walks leisurely through the desert. She [Theron] jumps off the truck and curses his heart out in his direction. She says, ‘Bill that fucking asshole hundred thousand dollars for every minute he delays the crew’ and ‘How disrespectful you are!’.
Charlize Theron was reportedly right. The addressee of her tantrum, Tom Hardy, saw it differently.
It’s loud, it’s windy, he may only have heard parts of it, but he ran up to her and said: ‘What did you say to me?’
Hardy have “rather aggressive” worked, it was said by the crew. And Theron “felt threatened”.
