Tre Kronor defeated Finland after penalty drama.
Immediately after, the Swedes were sent a mocking pass.
Now the truth behind the blue-yellow mockery of the Finns is revealed.
It was a penalty shootout that had to separate Sweden and Finland in the neighborly feud on Monday evening. Tre Kronor emerged victorious from the duel in the hockey World Cup after Lucas Raymond set the decisive penalty and now the Swedes have had a dream start to this year’s WC.
Finnish mockery
Three straight victories in three games played gives our blue-and-yellow WC players plenty of confidence in their backs ahead of much easier games next against Hungary and France. But for Finland, it was another sour defeat against Sweden just a few days after they also missed out on the victory in Eurovision when Loreen won before Dear.

The Finns were also teasingly reminded of that when Tre Kronor chose to send out a mocking pass on social media to our dear neighbor. Immediately after the final whistle, Sweden published a post with the following words along with the victory pictures:
“And all I care about is you,
you’re stuck on me like a tattoo”

Sweden’s response
The mockery in the hockey World Cup aroused great anger in Finland, and already during the warm-up, Loreen’s winning song “Tattoo” was also played in the match arena after the Swedish players chose it as their wish song. But none of the Swedish players could point out whose idea it was actually to play the song.

Now Tre Kronor breaks the silence itself and tells the truth behind the mockery of Finland.
– The idea with the tweet, and all the posts we make in social media, is to create engagement around Tre Kronor. Sometimes you do it through pure sports reporting, and sometimes you do it by having a twinkle in your eye and delivering a bit of humor, says Linus Hugossonwho is responsible for communications at the Swedish Ice Hockey Association, to Sportbladet.
– Yesterday we felt that we wanted to connect to Eurovision, which has been a big talking point in recent days and do it with a twinkle in our eye, as best we could.

The post on Twitter must have upset a lot of Finns, but many Swedes love the jokey pass and appreciate the slip.
– Finland-Sweden is one of the greatest rivalries in hockey history. I don’t think Eurovision increases it in that way. We saw this as a chance to try to garner commitment with a twinkle in the eye, then I don’t think it matters that much for the rivalry in general, says Hugosson to the evening newspaper.
