When king Carl XVI Gustaf decided to slim down the royal house, it meant several big changes. It was in 2019 that the king made the decision that the princess Madeleine’s and prince Carl Phillips respective children would no longer belong to the royal house.
The decision concerned Madeleine and Chris O’Neill’s three children the princess Leonoreprince Nicholas and the princess Adrienneas well as Carl Philip and the princess Sofia’s three children prince Alexanderprince Gabriel and prince Julian. Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip’s upcoming addition, who is expected to be born in February 2025, will also be covered by the new rules.

The decision was received with open arms by both Madeleine and Carl Philip.
“This change has been planned for a long time. Chris and I think it’s good that our children now have a greater opportunity to shape their own lives as private individuals in the future,” Princess Madeleine wrote on Instagram.
Prince Carl Philip and Sofia were also positively disposed to the change.
“Today the King announced the decision that our children no longer have the status of Royal Highnesses. We see this as positive as Alexander and Gabriel will have freer choices in life,” they wrote on their social media at the time.

The children no longer get a share of the appanage, and since Princess Madeleine has lived abroad with the family and does not represent Sweden and the royal house, she has not received a single crown in appanage either, something that The evening paper have reported on.
The newspaper further wrote that Madeleine, on the other hand, can receive compensation if she carries out an official program item on behalf of the king.
After the princess and her family moved home to Sweden during the summer, she has had to do almost immediately – already in October a big commitment awaits, as Princess Madeleine is a substitute for the king when he and the queen Silvia going to Brazil. The week after “Madde’s” entry, the crown princess arrives Victoria to take over.

Princess Madeleine’s new life in Sweden
When Svensk Damtidning’s editor-in-chief and well-reputed court reporter Johan T Lindwall guested on Sveriges Radio’s podcast The Monarchs then he told more about Princess Madeleine’s new life in Sweden.

As News24 previously reported on, Madeleine lives with her husband Chris O’Neill and the children in Hovstallet. A stable may not sound like much to the world – but the family has seven top-renovated rooms totaling several hundred square meters in which to spread out.

Behind the rustic brick walls that stretch over a large block, a verdant garden, a rippling pond, a garage for around 20 cars and, of course, space for horses are hidden. Like stepping into a fairy tale world, quite simply.
Of course, it was an adjustment for the whole family to leave Florida behind in favor of the charming neighborhoods next to Strandvägen. A lot of new things await. In addition to the children starting a new Swedish school, Chris O’Neill also has a new job.

Chris has had finance in his blood since he was a newborn. His father Paul Cesario O’Neill was a successful banker and businessman, who had studied at Harvard and made a career on Wall Street before leaving New York for London in 1968. Paul first worked with the investment bank Oppenheimer, but in London he later founded what would become one of the world’s largest hedge funds: Odyssey Partners.
Chris O’Neill currently works with investments in listed companies. He has an impressive CV: previously he was a partner in Noster Capital and employed at NM Rothschild & Sons and Steinberg Asset Management. For many years he also worked with payment solutions for the company Wilton Payments.
But in Sweden, new things await. Together with friends Cedric Notz – yes, the same Cedric who was Chris’s best man during the wedding with Madeleine – and Marco Wajselfisz he has started the firm Belgravia Advisors which will engage in financial advice.

The name Belgravia in the company name is presumably a nod to Chris O’Neill’s growing-up neighborhood Eton Square in the ultra-exclusive Belgravia area of London – home to celebrities, oil oligarchs and billionaires.
“As you know, Belgravia Advisors AB is a start-up company. It is active, but is not expected to generate any meaningful revenue this year,” Chris O’Neill wrote in an email to The Express.

Johan T Lindwall says in the podcast that Princess Madeleine has spent time with her friends since returning home, but also of course with her family, with whom she traveled around both in Sweden but also visited friends on the French Riviera. The fun that is of course not free.

Princess Madeleine has a documented expensive taste. She has been seen in extremely exclusive jewelry from, for example, Cartier, and her favorite designers and fashion houses include Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Fendi and Valentino.
Princess Madeleine is expensive to operate. Here she matches a tennis bracelet with a Love Bracelet from Cartier on one wrist. On the other wrist: The watch from Cartier in the model Tank Américaine. The Värsting watch in white gold is adorned with 142 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 1.37 carats, and the bracelet is made of alligator leather. The price for the watch today is approximately SEK 440,000.

Sarah Williamswho operates the account theroyalsandycalculated last year that Madeleine spent over half a million kroner in 2023 on just new clothes and accessories. But where does the money actually come from?
In the Monarkerna podcast, the presenter throws Look Schultz out the question.
Princess Madeleine, she has no appanage, so what does she live on?
Johan T Lindwall knows that.
– I will tell you that. If I may be a little self-righteous, I did the only big interview with Chris O’Neill so far a number of years ago. Then he said on three occasions that – because we talked about this with him not going home to Sweden as often as he should perhaps do at the Nobel and so on. Then he said this: Don’t forget one thing: I am the man that puts the food on the table. It is quite un-00s to say such a thing, but he wants to show that he is the one who works and he is the one who provides for the family.
Titti wonders if it is the case that there is simply some kind of private fortune with Princess Madeleine, but if new money is to be brought in, it will simply come from Chris O’Neill.
– Yes, that’s what he told me when I asked him. Then it’s like this: they made a big buck on the house in Florida. We are not talking ten million, but we are talking even more in pure profit after everything was paid. You can also live on that here at home in Sweden. So the supply itself is of course not a problem, said Johan T Lindwall in Monarkerna.
