[Mis à jour le 23 février 2022 à 20h50] Released in cinemas in 2019, In the name of the Earth describes the plight of farmers and the way in which the agricultural world has evolved in recent years. Director Edouard Bergeon chose, for this first feature film, to draw inspiration from the true story of his father. Like the character of Guillaume Canet in the film, he was a farmer before he ended his life.
The character of Pierre in Au nom de la Terre is directly inspired by the filmmaker’s father: “The film is taken from my experience, explains Edouard Bergeon to Allociné. I come from a long line of peasants, son and grandson of peasants, both on my mother’s and my father’s side. Christian Bergeon, my father, set up as a farmer in 1979 with the desire and passion for the profession. With my mother, they worked a lot so that my sister and I lived a happy youth on the farm”. He explains that he wanted to do In the name of the Earth to give a voice to his father: “It shows part of the suffering that we have experienced in silence and in the indifference of institutions and part of the extended family” adds- he at the microphone of Allociné.
