This production looks back on two cases that have sadly become symbols of domestic violence in France: the feminicide of Julie Douib, and the attempted homicide of Laura Rapp. On March 3, 2019, Julie Douib died after her former companion shot her three times in Haute-Corse. This 34-year-old mother had however lodged a complaint several times against her ex before the tragedy, without the authorities reacting. His executioner was sentenced in 2021 to life imprisonment, accompanied by a security sentence of twenty-two years. Shortly after the death of his daughter, the victim’s father, Lucien Douib, believed that “there was a failure in the system, in the lack of listening”.

When he tries to strangle her on the night of April 16 to 17, 2018, in front of their child, she files a complaint. But her husband was finally released without an electronic bracelet before his trial for attempted homicide, after having spent ten months in pre-trial detention. Her ex-spouse has been stalking Laura Rapp and her daughter, trying to get custody of the child. It was finally on May 14, 2019, two months after the death of Julie Douib, that she decided to tell her story on Twitter, accusing the justice system of “turning her back” and asking for protection. Her ex-spouse was then put back behind bars. He was found guilty of attempted murder a few months later and sentenced to eight years in prison.
