The trotting horse Anna Mix was frightened by fireworks – had to be euthanized

She earned over 15 million kroner and was one of Europe’s best trotting horses in her time – but after being frightened by New Year’s rockets, Anna Mix had to be euthanized, aged 14.
Now she is mourned by many trotting fans, who remember a stubborn winner.
– She had a huge psyche and refused to lose. She was just rock hard, from nose to tail, says trotting expert Per Skoglund.

The trotting horse Anna Mix made a name for herself on the track as a special but stubborn big winner. During her life, she won several famous competitions, including the EC for mares, the Prix de Bretagne, came second in the Prix de France and Finlandia-Ajo. In the Olympic trot she finished third and in 2016 she broke a new world record for older mares when she won the Axevalla race of 1.12.0a/2,640 meters.

But the star horse’s life came to an abrupt end at Christmas, according to reports travservice.dk. On December 27, she was one of several horses spooked by fireworks. Anna Mix broke her leg and they had to euthanize her.

– It is deeply tragic. For several years, she had a huge profile in Sweden. Especially in the V75. She was very special, but terribly good. She was relentless, says trotting expert Per Skoglund.

Banned from several competitions – was too stubborn

Per Skoglund remembers a very stubborn horse, who was as special on the track as he was on the sidelines.

– If it didn’t suit her then she didn’t want to join.

Sometimes she had to be removed from competitions, for the simple reason that she refused to participate.

– She was struck out in Sweden and France because she was unruly. Then she showed it with all desirable clarity. And some days it went great. It is very rare among the super horses and she was a super horse. The vast majority are thoroughbred professionals in all situations, but she had a will of her own.

“Will be missed”

Per Skoglund believes that Anna Mix will be greatly missed, not only by those closest to her.

– I think that many Swedish trotting fans give her a thought or two when she is no longer around. She will be missed.

And that the star horse’s life ended the way it did, Per Skoglund thinks it is unworthy.

– Unfortunately, it is a reminder of what can happen if animals, rockets and firecrackers get too close to each other.
