Lucas Wallmark was a resounding success during this year’s Olympics, where he was the great shooting king. Now he is playing his very first World Cup with Tre Kronor, and he seems to have gotten a real fan in the Swedish, well-traveled crowd of supporters.

Unexpected courtship

Wallmark had to play center between William Nylander and Joakim Nordström in yesterday’s match against Norway – the second last in the group stage – and also had to score his first World Cup goal, when he scored the 5-0 goal against Norway in powerplay. It has previously been four points in the four matches he played, after missing two matches with food poisoning.

But Wallmark has become a bit of an audience favorite – and it was noticed in the stands yesterday. After Tre Kronor won the match against Norway 7-1, Wallmark suddenly threw himself against the plexiglass, right where a supporter stood. Shortly afterwards, the explanation came. It was a Swedish supporter who wore a white dress – and a red Pippi wig, and who held a special sign in Wallmark’s direction.

Can win the group

The sign said, very unexpectedly: “Wallmark, will you marry me?”. In other words, it was a courtship that came in Wallmark’s direction from the stands. WE guess that Lucas Wallmark answered no, but you still have to love creativity, and on social media, the video of the “courtship” has been widely circulated.

Sweden will play its last match against in the group stage of this year’s hockey World Cup on Tuesday, starting at 11.20 against Latvia. If Sweden is to win the group, help is needed from the Czech Republic, which faces Finland. Before the last group game round, Tre Kronor is one point behind the neighbors in the east.
