The derailment happened late on Tuesday evening at Fagerneskajen, which is located near the southern exit in Narvik. The train that derailed is thus blocking road E6 to the south as well as the entrance to Kaunis iron’s ore quay.
– We managed to arrive with a train that has been detached, and one train had to turn around and drive back. It’s the law about everything being damned, says Nils-Johan Haraldsson, logistics manager at Kaunis iron.
Does not affect LKAB
However, LKAB’s shipping port is not affected. The track to that port diverges further north in Narvik and the traffic on that part should not be affected by the new derailment.
At Kaunis iron, they have received preliminary forecasts that the track will be cleared and restored by around 2 pm on Thursday afternoon.
