The town of Zaouïa, located some 45 kilometers west of Tripoli, was once again the scene of clashes between opposing militias this Thursday, June 20. The fighting took place in a residential area and left several injured, according to local media. In the series of targeted liquidations that the city is experiencing, the brother of a leader of one of the factions deployed in Zaouïa was seriously injured, which sparked hostilities.

The leaders of armed groups and militias deployed in residential neighborhoods control this trafficking of human beings, gasoline and drugs. These militia leaders are driven by the desire for personal enrichment, competition and conflicts of interest with other armed groups. However, all these groups are financed by the government of Tripoli which has lost control over this city and which no longer condemns its abuses.
In Zaouïa, hardly a single day goes by without revenge or liquidation taking place. In less than a week, five people were killed. Exasperated, the residents once again demonstrated their anger this Wednesday in front of the police headquarters, but their voice does not seem to be audible. Security failure is widespread in a Libya in the grip of chaos.
