The woman is suspected of aggravated blackmail and the so far unnamed member of parliament is suspected of buying sex, which is a crime in Sweden.
The events that caused a stir in Sweden started a few months ago, when a member of parliament in a leading position within his own party, i.e. the ruling moderate coalition, had brought two women to his overnight apartment, Swedish newspapers say Dagens Nyheter (you switch to another service) and Expressen (you switch to another service).
Aftonbladet tells (you will switch to another service) Referring to the preliminary investigation material of the Swedish Protection Police, the man had met a woman with whom he had been in contact for a long time last December.
At the end of the evening spent at the bar, he ended up at his apartment together with the woman and her friend. In the apartment, the MP and the women drank wine, after which the man ended up having sex with at least one other woman.
During the evening, the woman had filmed the man giving her oral sex. During the following months, the woman blackmailed the MP for a total of 65,000 Swedish kroner (about 6,000 euros) by repeatedly threatening the man with the publication of the photos.
The Swedish media reports that the woman used the money she received from her husband for, among other things, breast augmentation surgery and for various trips and buying branded clothes. The woman had also demanded money from the man to get a driver’s license and a new car.
The member of parliament says that he felt very sick due to the constant blackmail. In the end, he refused to pay the woman more money and contacted the protection police. The police started investigating the case immediately.
Aftonbladet reports that the 30-year-old woman suspected of aggravated extortion also has several previous criminal convictions. Among other things, the woman has been convicted of aggravated assault in 2018, when she had stabbed another person.
The member of parliament is also suspected of a crime
DN says that the MP is also suspected of buying sex, which is illegal in Sweden. During the preliminary investigation, the MP himself said that he had given the woman 5,000 kroner (450 euros) so that she could pay for her trip home and part of her rent.
However, the woman accused of blackmail claims that the man paid her specifically for sex. The member of parliament at the center of the sex scandal has said that the woman’s claim is “bullshit”.
DN says that it has tried to reach the member of parliament at the center of the cases, but the man has not responded to the newspaper’s contacts. The MP’s party also refuses to comment on the matter.
Sweden’s security police say they are puzzled by the leaking of confidential preliminary investigation material to the public.
