Garrett Scantling, who evaded doping testers and falsified his whereabouts, has received a three-year doping ban, which prevents him from competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The top name in this year’s decathlon world rankings, the United States Garrett Scantling29, has received a three-year suspension from competition for a violation of whereabouts and anti-doping regulations.
Scantling had evaded doping tests and was given a temporary suspension from competition last July. Because of that, he couldn’t participate in, among other things, the World Championships in athletics in Eugene in July.
The United States Anti-Doping Agency said it tested Scantling nine times between his first whereabouts violation on August 25, 2021 and his provisional suspension on July 21, 2022. Three violations of whereabouts during the year know an automatic doping violation.
According to Usada, the competitor had “tampered” with email information while trying to cover up his arrival for the doping test. The athlete must state the period of time during which he will be at the place he has declared in advance for each day.
Scantling has accepted the three-year suspension he received, set to begin on June 27, 2022, when the athlete provably falsified his whereabouts.
This means that he will have to miss next year’s World Championships in Budapest and the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
– Unfortunately, this is the situation now. I worked hard to get to the position I was in. But one mistake changed my entire career. I take responsibility for this, regardless of how severe the consequences are for a clean athlete, Scantling wrote in his text message on Friday.
Scantling, who finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics, is the 2022 world leader in the decathlon. On March 7, 2022 in Fayetteville, he posted the seventh-highest 10-game hitting streak of 8,867 points.
