The Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, is concerned about the conspiracy theories that Islamists in Sweden are spreading from Sweden.
Sweden’s NATO membership will be realized in the near future, NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said while visiting Stockholm.
– I expect to be able to welcome Sweden as a full member of NATO very soon, Stoltenberg said.
On Monday, the president of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that he would take Sweden’s NATO application to parliament for consideration, after more than a year of waiting.
The Secretary General of NATO talked with the President of Turkey on Saturday. He told reporters in Sweden that he told Erdoğan that Sweden meets all the requirements for membership. For example, it has changed its terrorism laws and allowed arms exports to Turkey.
In Stoltenberg’s opinion, Turkey has acted exactly as it promised in Vilnius, i.e. took the matter forward in October.
During the year, NATO has also come against Turkey and strengthened its anti-terrorism activities, for example.
– No NATO country has suffered from terrorism as much as Turkey.
In Hungary, the Swedish papers are on the parliament’s table, but the decisive vote has not been taken. Stoltenberg says he trusts that Hungary will not delay the decision.
