The requirements for becoming a Swedish citizen must be tightened, write the leaders of the governing parties and the Sweden Democrats in a debate article in Dagens Nyheter.

Last fall, the government appointed an inquiry into stricter requirements for Swedish citizenship. The results of this must be reported in January.

Before the stricter requirements are in place, there is reason to act against citizenships that are issued according to today’s legislation, write the party leaders.

“To the extent that it is possible, measures must therefore be taken to prevent more Swedish citizenships being issued, until the new legislation comes into force”.

In the debate article, the party leaders also mention a number of points where further steps need to be taken “to get our country in order”. Among other things, it is about combating organized crime and shortening care queues.
