The price of bran is higher than ever and can cost several hundred dollars for a family.
At the same time, the three -child mother Lilli Sjöstrand fights daily with the economy – and bran to the children falls at the bottom of the priority list.
– These are things that many people take as a matter of course, but I have to think about if I can afford. It is tough and sad that it is so, she says.
The price of bran has increased by about 30 percent in just five years. On average, bran is sold for about SEK 50-60 in the big cities this year. For single three -child mother Lilli Sjöstrand from Åstorp, this means that she does not afford bran to her children.
– Absolutely sick that prices can only go away so. It feels rotten to have to deny my children like that because I have to get the food to reach until the next salary, she tells TV4 News.
She tells how her finances are already strained and that the rising food prices force her to prioritize everything that is not absolutely necessary. Lilli, who has gone into the wall twice, works 75 percent with salary subsidies and struggles to get everyday together.
– There are many sleepless nights. You close yourself and cry, dry tears and go out to continue fighting. My children have not chosen to have a sick mother, you have to bite together, day by day.
Make your own bran
Buying bran for the whole family can cost several hundred dollars. Lilli Sjöstrand thinks it is macabre that a single holiday can be so expensive.
– It had cost me several hundred kronor for all children, I can get several meals for that. It is sad that you need to prioritize in every decision, but buy bran today I just do not, she says.
Instead, she decided to make her own variant.
– I bought some cream and will try to find some cheap buns. Fortunately, my children do not like almond pulp, it will be cheaper that way.
“Is about survival”
Figures from the Public Health Authority show that approximately 430,000 children in Sweden live in a low economic standard household. At the same time, food prices have risen more than inflation in recent years. Lilli says that she more often needs to make priorities today.
– The increase becomes clear every time I go to the store. I’m just looking for red prices to get as much food for as little money as possible. There will be no luxury, right now it is about trying to survive. As long as my children have a roof over my heads and food on the table.
