the tests and the probable subjects

SUBJECT BAC SVT. The SVT special event will take place on June 19 and 20 in the afternoon. What should students expect?

The bac deadline is getting closer for hundreds of thousands of students. For those who have felt a particular attraction for the life and Earth sciences, the SVT specialty test is among the unmissable events. It takes place on June 19 and 20 between 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Students will therefore have a maximum of three and a half hours to work on two scientific essays, which will count for 15 points in the final grade (the practical test counts for 5 points). For the first exercise, the students will have to mobilize and present their knowledge while in the second it will be more about solving a problem by adopting a scientific approach.

The first official subjects of the baccalaureate were revealed in the foreign centers of North America, which have already passed the exams of the baccalaureate 2024, what will be the subjects of the general series in mainland France? Several chapters are already to be considered because they fall repeatedly but others could create a surprise. So to not be caught off guard, it is better to review the entire program. Especially since the specialty test should not be taken lightly, because it will count for 16% of the final baccalaureate mark.

Probable subjects for the SVT test this year

As every year, certain subjects are expected to fall on the day of the baccalaureate, these hypotheses are most often based on the year’s program, past subjects and the annals. For the SVT 2024 specialty test, several themes seem more likely than others. Here are which:

  • Genetics and evolution: the origin of the genotype of individuals
  • In search of the geological past of our planet: dating methods
  • From wild plants to domesticated plants: the functional organization of flowering plants, photosynthesis and plant reproduction
  • Earth’s climates: the evolution of CO2 over time and the different climatic variations over time
  • Human body and health

Be careful though, these subjects are mainly considered for the first exercise of the test. The second being usually transversal, it is not possible to set aside certain chapters from the program because in the end all of them are likely to be present in the statements or in the demonstrations necessary to pass this test.

SVT subjects abroad in 2024

Linternaute invites you to discover the subjects which were covered this year by students from foreign centers located in North America for the SVT specialty test counting for the 2024 baccalaureate. If these are indeed official subjects, nothing certifies that they are similar to what candidates from mainland France and other foreign centers will have to deal with, they nevertheless provide an idea of what will be expected of candidates.

Linternaute invites you to discover the subject which was prepared last year for students taking the SVT test on the first day, counting towards the baccalaureate. It is distributed with our partner Studyrama. First of all, the candidates had to “show that current global warming is partly linked to the use by humans of solar energy from the past”, then “explain why this new treatment (of cystic fibrosis) is only prescribed to patients with cystic fibrosis with the delF508 mutation.”

For the second day of the test, the second group of candidates had to “explain how the organic molecules contained in a seed were produced, stored then used during germination”, then “show what climatic variation affected the lake region Salinas over the past 15,000 years.”

In partnership with Studyrama, Linternaute offers you an answer key to the SVT test on which the candidates had to work during the first and second day of the test. This is a suggested answer key written by a specialist professor.

The results of the life and earth sciences specialty exam will be available on July 8, 2024at the same time as the results of the other tests.
