Magnus Ranstorp explains that Hamas stands for the Islamic resistance movement and is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood from Egypt.
– They are a very broad organization that has political, social and military activities.
When the peace process between Israel and Palestine was carried out in the 90s, Hamas started suicide attacks.
– Then it has escalated with continuous rocket attacks in the last three to four years.
Ranstorp says that the group is also technically savvy.
– 90 percent of the rockets fired have been constructed in Gaza.
Want to see multi-front war
The goal of the Hamas attack is to start a multi-front war, according to Ranstorp.
– They want to involve other parts such as the West Bank, and they appeal to Hezbollah to join this match.
He tells us that when Israel enters Gaza, Hezbollah will surely activate and enter the conflict.
Israel has mobilized a large number of troops in Gaza and is prepared to go in and eliminate Hamas’ infrastructure, says Magnus Ranstorp.
– They will certainly also hunt down the leadership of Hamas, they want to clean out Hamas once and for all. The problem, of course, is the civilian population that is in Gaza who will suffer from Israel’s retaliation.
