After Friday’s assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has escalated further.
– Israel shows that there are no limits on who you attack and who you go after. It will have major consequences, says terrorism expert Magnus Ranstorp.
Israel continues its attacks on Lebanon and according to the military, hundreds of targets have been attacked in the past 24 hours. There have also been reports of an imminent ground offensive. It was in an Israeli bomb attack on Lebanon’s capital Beirut that Hassan Nasrallah was killed.
– He has been in power for 32 years and for a long time they have also gone surgically towards the top leadership. It’s not just about Nasrallah, but also the special forces within Hezbollah, says Magnus Ranstorp.
“Israel has an enormous capacity”
The terror expert believes that Israel did incredible intelligence feats in being able to find the leader.
– To know exactly what floor he is in the bunker system under this high-rise. It also shows that Israel has an enormous capacity to go against those it considers to be a strategic threat, says Magnus Ranstorp.
Hezbollah has had large arsenals, they have had 150,000 to 200,000 missiles and rocket systems, according to Magnus Ranstorp.
– In the last week alone, Israel has eliminated 50 percent of it, but they still have an enormous capacity, he says.
“Will have major consequences”
Israel has now managed to get to the top and knock out the military leadership but they haven’t knocked out everyone in the leadership committee of seven to eight people.
– Hassan Nasrallah has been an enormously important person who has guided Hezbollah through this, says Magnus Ranstorp.
The terror expert believes that Hezbollah is now very broken and that it will take time for them to mobilize.
– Israel shows that there are no limits on who you attack and who you go after. It will have major consequences, says Magnus Ranstorp.
