Daniil Medvedev was nervous about the crowd’s booing after throwing his racket at the ATP tournament in Metz.
The former tennis world number one Daniil Medvedev behavior towards the public has again caused an uproar. Today, the Russian player, who is ranked fourth in the world, met a legendary player Stan Wawrinka Metz at the ATP tournament in France.
When Medvedev was down 0–2 in the third set, he got nervous after making a mistake and threw his racket onto the court. The French audience booed and this made Medvedev even more nervous. He started making “monkey gestures” in the direction of the audience.
This is not the first time that Medvedev and the public have been at loggerheads. For example, in 2019, the US Open happened in a similar way, although as the tournament continued, the gaps improved.
Wawrinka finally defeated Medvedev 6–4, 6–7, 6–4 and took his best win in a long time. In the same tournament Emil Ruusuvuoren the job ended yesterday, but Harri Heliövaara will play in the doubles semifinals on Saturday.
