The tenant moved away and left responsibility for his home to a resident.

When he got home, the apartment was completely destroyed.

Now he is forced to pay SEK 400,000, reports Home & Rent.

A man in Malmö had planned how he would solve the finances of his accommodation when he would travel abroad for a few months.

He handed over responsibility for the apartment to a woman in her 30s who he had as a resident.

This is reported by Hem & Hyra.

But it didn’t turn out the way the Malmö resident imagined.

Refused to move out

When he returned, his apartment was completely destroyed. The kitchen was smashed and the doors and walls had serious damage.

The woman also refused to move out.

He had to report her to the police for vandalism and contact the bailiff to get rid of her.

When she finally left, however, a long ordeal remained for the man.

The landlord MKB, the municipal housing company in Malmö, accused him of renting out black.

According to Hem & Hyra, they initially demanded more than SEK 725,000 from him.

Come to an agreement

The tenant did not want to pay. He claimed that it was his resident who vandalized the apartment and not him.

But it didn’t matter, according to EIA.

They stated that he illegally sublet, and since he had the first lease, he was also responsible for the apartment and what happened there.

Before the district court could hear the case, the landlord and tenant finally came to an agreement.

EIA reduced the bill to SEK 400,000.

Total chaos

Photos in the documentation that EIA submitted to the district court show broken kitchen doors hanging askew, broken window panes, holes and marks in walls and hall wardrobes where someone has torn down the doors.

According to the inspection, there was also moisture damage in the apartment.
