7 vs. Wild has become a huge success. The third season is now running on YouTube and reaches millions of people with each episode. RTL has now secured the rights to the original “Alone”, here you can find out how similar the two series are.
What is Alone? Alone is a US survival show that is considered a quasi-template for 7 vs. Wild. Fritz Meinecke and other participants repeatedly emphasized that they watched episodes of the show in preparation for their time on 7 vs. Wild. In the series, survival professionals are exposed who have to survive alone until there is only one left.
One of the participants in season 3 is the Twitch streamer Jens “Knossi” Knossalla. You can see more about him in our video.
The differences lie in the details
Which candidates are on Alone? The difference between the two series starts with the candidates. At 7 vs. Wild there is sometimes talk of a real “school trip feeling” because there are mainly YouTubers and Twitch streamers who know each other. In Alone, however, only survival professionals are exposed.
The casting call provides a little more information about the candidates:
Are you (f/m/d) at least 18 years old, assertive, physically fit and want to take on the challenge of staying in the real wilderness for as long as possible?
A battle awaits you with the merciless forces of nature, hunger, wild animals and perhaps the hardest task of all: isolation.
ITV casting call
RTL has the series produced by the production company ITV Studios Germany. The company is probably best known for the show “I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here!”
Who will win at Alone? In Alone, the participant who lasts the longest wins. The prize money in the German version of the show is 75,000 euros. In other countries the prize amount is significantly higher and amounts to 500,000 euros.
At 7 vs. Wild, whoever collected the most points through the various daily challenges won in seasons 1 and 2. In season 3, however, all teams that lasted the full two weeks won.
In both shows, participants can get out at any time and get help, even if there is great danger.
You can watch the trailer for the “Alone” spin-off from Great Britain here.
What other differences are there? In both Alone and 7 vs. Wild there are no camera crews, the participants film themselves. In Alone, however, there are 10 candidates with 10 items each, while in 7 vs. Wild, at least in the 1st season, there are 7 candidates with 7 items competed.
The two series are also very similar in terms of location. Both Alone on RTL+ and the third season 7 vs. Wild were filmed in Canada, more precisely Vancouver Island. Both series also take place on First Nations territory, i.e. the indigenous people of the area.
The filming locations are still slightly different, while 7 vs. Wild was filmed in the north of the area on the islands of Hope Island and Nigei Island, Alone takes place on the west coast of the area.
What about animals? In Alone the danger from bears and other wild animals such as wolves, such as pumas and wolves is much higher than in 7 vs. Wild. RTL states that the participants filmed in the fall, just when bears are on the move a lot in search of food in preparation for hibernation.
However, similar to 7 vs. Wild, participants have additional items with them to defend themselves against or scare away wild animals.
Will you watch Alone on RTL+? Or do you watch 7 vs. Wild primarily because of the candidates? Please let us know. All sorts of funny things happened at 7 vs. Wild, but some situations with the production weren’t so nice either. Here you can find out why a team was almost eliminated because a candidate overslept.
