The telephone line in Älvsbyn was knocked out in the extreme cold – Telia is criticized

When it was 40 degrees cold, the switchgear in Älvsbyn caught fire and the electricity went out.

The power outage in turn led to all Telia’s telephony in the municipality going down and being gone for six hours.

– The entire municipality’s telephony is based on Telia, says Margareta Lundberg, risk and security coordinator in Älvsbyn.

Could not communicate internally

The security alarm went off and the municipality could not communicate internally, neither the home service nor the municipal management.

– I didn’t have a direct number for someone at Telia who can be contacted in a crisis situation and I couldn’t find anyone who could help us via the usual numbers.

Nor could the county board’s official on standby be able to get in touch with Telia on the numbers they knew at that time.

In the clip, you can hear the security coordinator about the crisis situation.
