The Swedish Tax Agency is the authority in Sweden that is responsible for collecting taxes from private individuals and companies, managing the population register, registering estate records and acting as a creditor for the state.
In order for the work to flow, from time to time they go out with calls to the public.
An example of that is when they recently went out and targeted those who wish to apply for tax adjustment. The authority then urged to send the application no later than November 10 so that it would apply for the entire year 2025.

However, the Swedish Tax Agency is not the only authority that addresses people with invitations. After the summer of 2024, the Kronofogden chose to urge 650,000 Swedes who have not paid the back tax to do so, otherwise they risked receiving a payment notice.
“Don’t forget to pay your back taxes. Thursday 12 September is an important date for you who have to pay back taxes – then the money should be in the Tax Agency’s account,” they wrote on their website at the time.

But targeting with clear and sometimes sharp calls is not the only thing the Swedish authorities engage in. Often they are aimed at the general public for an informative purpose.
One such example was when they recently informed about the risks for workers of being exploited by criminals.
As the number of frauds increases, fraudsters resort to new innovative tricks to evade justice. Through an information campaign, the Swedish Tax Agency and several other authorities joined forces to spread knowledge to the country’s workers about the risks of being exploited by the employer.
– In the campaign, we are targeting vulnerable workers directly and informing them of the rights they have when they work in Sweden. It is important to know your rights in order not to be taken advantage of. We also highlight what opportunities for support exist and examples of organizations and actors that can provide support and help, said Nina Blomkvist national coordinator at the Swedish Tax Agency’s crime-fighting department in a press release.

Now the Tax Agency has once again gone out and addressed a group in society where they inform about new rules that will soon come into force.
As of November 1, new civil registration rules apply. With the new legislation, those affected will not receive the same financial support and compensation as previously applied.
Those affected are people from Ukraine and children born in Sweden who have received a residence permit.
“More people who have a residence permit with temporary protection can be registered as of November 1. Then the length of residence permit and length of stay required is halved”, they write on their website and add:
“It is also new that children born in Sweden who have recently received their residence permit can be registered at the same time as their parents. At the same time, financial support and allowances to which the persons are entitled are changed”.

Sandra Hedberg works as a legal expert at the Swedish Tax Agency. In a press release, she explains that the people who had a residence permit with temporary protection have been able to be registered in Sweden since the summer of 2024. But from November 1, the requirements will be lower.
– Until now, it has been the case that the persons must have been in Sweden for two years with such residence permits and that they must intend to stay for another year. It now applies that the persons must have had the residence permit for one year and intend to stay here for at least another six months.
The children who are born in Sweden can also be registered according to the new law when one’s parent or guardian is registered. This is even if the child has not had his residence permit with temporary protection for a full year.
– This means that it will now be easier for children born in Sweden to be registered together with their family, says Sandra Hedberg.
The Swedish Tax Agency clarifies in its press release that people who meet the requirements to be entered in the population register are obliged to notify the authority of moving in within four weeks. They also need to visit a service office to carry out an identity check.
