As of February 1, 2025, the Tax Agency will receive another task. The reason is that they want to strengthen control and prevent fraud when it comes to specific payments.

It is a protection for the person who has an employer that has gone bankrupt or is undergoing a restructuring.
The salary guarantee provides compensation for the salary or similar compensation that the employer would otherwise have paid.
The bankruptcy trustee or the reconstructor are the bodies that decide whether an individual is entitled to a wage guarantee or not, as well as how much money the person in question should receive.

– The government and the Riksdag have assessed that we have good conditions to carry out the necessary increased controls to counteract the errors and fraud that unfortunately occur, says Helena Jangel Stridhbusiness developer at the Swedish Tax Agency, in one press release.
Of the payments made, between six and nine percent can be made on incorrect grounds, the Tax Agency states. This corresponds to a breathtaking 100 to 140 million kroner in incorrect payments annually. That is the reason why the responsibility will now be placed with the Tax Agency, after the government requested the National Audit Office to carry out an examination of the wage guarantee.

That’s how much you can get in salary guarantee instead of salary
The decision will be made on Tuesday 17 December and will in the future cover 17,000 Swedes who currently receive a wage guarantee where the total maximum amount is four price base amounts, which in 2024 has corresponded to SEK 229,200. Salary guarantee can only be paid for eight months.
