On Saturday, the supreme leader of the Taliban, the extremist organization that rules Afghanistan, banned windows in, for example, courtyards and kitchens – “areas that women often use”.
The Taliban spokesperson issued a statement on the matter on Saturday. The spokesperson justifies the decision in community service X with decency.
Due to the ban, windows that can be seen into “women’s areas” cannot be built in new buildings. The ban also applies to pre-existing windows, which were ordered to be covered in the statement.
The Taliban has enacted new laws restricting women’s rights since August 2021, when the extremist organization regained power in Afghanistan.
