The Symphonic Balkans of Goran Bregovic

The famous musician who was able to impose the “Balkan Music” genre on the world music map returns with The Belly Button Of The Worldhis first album composed for a symphony orchestra.

His music is immediately recognizable. It comes straight from the Balkans, and thanks to him, it has spread all over the world, notably through the cinema of Emir Kusturica and Patrice Chéreau, but also with artists from very different backgrounds (Iggy Pop, Asaf Avidan , Cesaria Evora, the Gipsy Kings, Scott Walker and even Rachid Taha). Composer, musician, lyricist, arranger and producer, Goran Bregovic popularized Gypsy culture, and campaigned tirelessly for harmony between peoples through his festive and colorful music that abolishes political and religious borders. His latest album is in the same vein: it resounds with five works written for three solo violins, a symphony orchestra, a male vocal sextet and his famous Orchestra of Weddings and Burials.

Goran Bregovic’s new album, The Belly Button Of The World just published by Decca.
