The Sydney marathon is now part of the World Marathon

Sydney joined Monday, November 4, like London, New York and Boston, the ranks of the most renowned marathons in the world, the World Marathon Majors, now seven in number. The entry of the Australian city into the circuit of The world’s largest marathons, which also includes Chicago, Tokyo and Berlin, is the culmination of a three-year program to grow the event. The Sydney Marathon is a legacy of the 2000 Summer Olympics held in the city on Australia’s southeast coast. The first session took place five months before the Olympics, and included 1,200 finishers. The race has since grown in popularity, attracting 25,000 participants in 2024.
