The Swedish Transport Administration delays – Ronneby municipality sets up its own suicide fence

In January, there were several incidents where students from Parkdal School were on the nearby railway tracks. According to information, in some cases it should have been a TikTok challenge.

As a measure, the municipality then put up a temporary fence. At the same time, they requested a suicide fence, a higher fence, from the Swedish Transport Administration, but were told that it would take between two and four years to get it done.

– I don’t think we can wait that long, this is such a security issue. Especially since we have such a large school nearby. We need to have a decision and a measure much earlier than two to four years, said Anna Hinseäng, acting head of administration at the administration for technology, leisure and culture in Ronneby to SVT in January.

Putting up fences themselves

Now the municipality is taking matters into its own hands. In mid-June, the Technology, Leisure and Culture Administration announced that they themselves will put up a fence by the railway at Parkdalaskolan. Partly because of the long wait and partly because the Swedish Transport Administration demanded co-financing.

The money comes from the administration’s security fund and the fences will be put up on municipal land, which will be a bit off the track.
