Emma Sralla won JVM gold in superior style.
Afterwards, the Swede received enormous praise – and was compared to Armand Duplantis.
– It’s so cool, she says.
Emma Sralla was one of the big favorites during the discus final in the JVM in Colombia. And the Swede really held up to the pressure, throwing several meters further than her opponents.
Highly praised
When the gold was secured, Emma Sralla was properly praised. By both his coach and the Swedish people. A situation that is above for the 17-year-old, and nothing she had expected.
– The acceptance I received from the Swedish people means everything to me. It’s a little nerve-wracking to compete for a country you don’t live in and I always get a little nervous about that. But when I see the support I seem to have in Sweden, I become incredibly proud to be Swedish and compete for Sweden, she tells Sportbladet.
Just like a certain Armand Duplantis, Emma Sralla has double passports. An American and a Swedish one. Just like the pole vaulter, she has chosen to compete for the latter, and therefore it is impossible not to compare her with the world record holder.
Emma Sralla also admits that it is a comparison that does not bother her in the least, but one that she likes.
Now compared to “Mondo”
– Haha, that’s a funny question. Why should that bother me? I mean, people compare me to a world record holder… It’s rather something that makes me jump for joy! Being compared to him is like the coolest thing there is. I’m a big fan of Mondo, so it really just makes me happy that people even mention us in the same sentence, she says.
Now Emma Sralla aims to compete and represent the national team together with Armand Duplantis. Hopefully, for her, it’s only a few years away.
– I hope so, she says.
