The New York Rangers sealed the regular season win by defeating the Ottawa Senators 4–0. The New York Islanders secured a playoff spot.
The Detroit Red Wings rose from the brink of the abyss to fight for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference in NHL hockey, when they won 5-4 against the Montreal Canadiens.
Detroit needed at least one point from the game to keep their playoff dreams alive.
Montreal took a 4–1 lead in the second period By Rafael Harvey-Pinard and By Brendan Callagher with hits.
JT Compher started the Red Wings’ Kiri at the end of the set with his second goal of the night, and in the final set Alex DeBrincat and Lucas Raymond leveled the team.
Raymond blew up Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena with 25 seconds left in overtime.
– At first I thought that Dylan Larkin goes for a drive through, but he must have been quite tired. I was pretty tired too, but I got up and tried to get the shot. Glad you got in, Raymond described.
JT Compher described how the players felt both despair and faith in the three-goal deficit.
– The biggest thing was that we still believed in each other. We never gave up. We believed we could go up and get the two points we needed.
Raymond said chasing a playoff spot has been an emotional roller coaster.
– We have managed to get important points in the final straight. Our locker room is full of competitive guys who enjoy these games. Of course, we would have liked a slightly more even season, but here we go.
– It says a lot about our team how we are able to come from behind in these matches.

Detroit and the Washington Capitals, who are battling for the last wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, both have 89 points, but the Capitals are locked in a playoff spot because of more regular-time wins.
The Capitals beat the Boston Bruins 2–0 in their own match.
The New York Islanders, who are three points ahead of the duo, secured their playoff spot with a 4–1 win over the New Jersey Devils.
Detroit and Washington both have one game to play.
