Paying tribute to the star
Many Värmlanders were touched by the football star’s nice gesture and now want to give him the very nicest gesture. Where several have sent in submissions to the local newspaper Nya Wermlands-Tidinningen to praise Beckham.
“An appeal to Governor Georg Andrén. Make David Beckham an ambassador for Värmland. You can’t get a better representative. Call ‘Svennis’ child or Tord Grip. They probably know how to get hold of him,” writes the submitter “Sven-Lennart”.
“Beckham took the time to travel to Sweden and visit Svennis not too long ago and came back to Sweden on Thursday evening to witness Svennis’ funeral on Friday. Say what you will about world stars and billionaires, but Beckham has shown that he has a good heart and a backbone from growing up and has taken at least three days off to say goodbye to a valued friend of the same scrap and grain. I myself have not been interested in football, but Svennis had my admiration and so did the superstar David Beckham,” writes the submitter “NAJ”.

Overall, the Värmlanders are impressed by the nice farewell Torsby son Sven-Göran Eriksson got, when everyone gathered to say a final goodbye. And as a last wish, Svennis had made the funeral available to anyone who wanted to come.
“It is usually said that it is most difficult to be recognized in one’s own hometown. Therefore, I think it is all credit to Värmland, especially Torsby, and the regional media who recognized Svenni’s strength and competence early on. And do it right into the tile. More of this is just for fun and gives a shared sense of pride I think. The honoring of Svennis has been so nice all the way,” writes the submitter “MF” to NWT.
