All women and girls from Afghanistan who apply for a residence permit in Sweden will now receive it. This is stated by the Swedish Migration Agency for TV4 Nyheterna. The reason is that the human rights situation for women in the country has gradually deteriorated since the Taliban took over power in August last year. At the latest in November, Sharia law was fully introduced in the country.
– We are now seeing further deterioration and restrictions in combination with the fact that there is no trend forward that shows any form of relief. This means that we have now reached a situation where the limitation and curtailment of the human rights of women and girls is so serious that it means persecution, says Carl Bexelius, head of justice at the Swedish Migration Agency.
The Swedish Migration Agency has previously received sharp criticism from various human rights organizations for continuing the deportations to Afghanistan. The authority has already identified women and girls from Afghanistan as a vulnerable group, which means that approximately nine out of ten women and girls have already been granted a residence permit by those who applied. Even women and girls who have already been rejected will have the opportunity to reconsider their case.
– If you have received a rejection decision from the Swedish Migration Agency, then I think you should contact the Swedish Migration Agency and request a new review, says Carl Bexelius.
