Lisa, 9, is to be deported to an orphanage in Albania.
When the family home that has custody of her applied for adoption, they were denied.
A decision appealed to the Supreme Court.
Now the Swedish Migration Agency announces that they are not waiting for the process.
Nine-year-old Lisa was born in Sweden, and has lived with a family home in Lidköping for the past few years.
Lisa’s biological mother, who is in Albania, suffers from mental illness which means that she is unable to take care of her. Lisa’s biological father is not in the picture.
Despite the fact that Hans and Paulina Backström became Lisa’s guardians in the family home, the Swedish Migration Agency decided to deport her. Something that attracted strong criticism.
After the Migration Agency’s decision, Hans and Paulina Backström applied to adopt Lisa, in an attempt to stop the deportation.
Didn’t get to adopt Lisa
But the district court said no, as did the Court of Appeal. The family has now appealed the decision to the Supreme Court.
The Swedish Migration Agency decided in January to suspend the deportation process, with reference to the Court of Appeal granting leave to appeal in the matter of adoption.
But despite the family waiting for a decision on whether the case can be heard in the Supreme Court, the Swedish Migration Agency has chosen to proceed with the deportation.
The Swedish Migration Agency’s press manager Jesper Tengroth says P4 Skaraborg that there are no reasons to continue freezing the process.
– Now we don’t know how long it will take before the Supreme Court makes a decision, and then how long it would take in a process, if there is a process, says Jesper Tengroth.
“Sad and distressed”
Lisa’s guardian Paulina Backström tells TV4 Nyheterna i evening that the family is sad and saddened by the Migration Agency’s decision.
– We do not understand why they cannot wait for a leave of appeal in the Supreme Court. Then Lisa has a little more time at school here because she still won’t be able to absorb any education in Albania as she doesn’t understand or speak the language, she says.
