The Swedish Medicines Agency now bans the sale of the product Voltnatura from Haleon, the company behind products such as Alvedon and Voltaren.
Haleon now risks a fine of SEK 500,000 each time the ban is violated.
The product Voltnatura is sold in most Swedish pharmacies and is marketed as a plant-based massage gel with soothing and cooling properties. But now the Swedish Medicines Agency prohibits the sale of the product, the authority announces in a decision.
Voltnatura is owned by the company Haleon, which is also behind several popular brands such as Alvedon, Sensodyne and Voltaren.
Haleon has called Voltnatura a cosmetic product, but according to the Swedish Medicines Agency, Voltnatura must be considered a medicine – and must be approved and registered before it can be sold in Sweden.
According to the Swedish Medicines Agency, Voltnatura has also been marketed by a Swedish influencer with over 100,000 followers on Instagram.
