The Swedish legend’s brand new life after his career – looks totally different today: “Otherwise I would have died”

He was one of Sweden’s leading shot putters.
But today, the legendary Jimmy Nordin lives a completely different life.
– That is what applies, otherwise I will die before I turn 50, the 43-year-old tells SportExpressen.

Around the turn of the millennium struck Jimmy Nordin through big as one of Sweden’s leading shot putters. Gävlesonen won a total of 11 SM gold in shot put and also SM gold in weightlifting.

Nordin’s scandal

In 2002, Nordin managed to reach a full 20.73 meters with the ball and it became his personal record and the fourth best result in Swedish sports history. But the track and field athlete’s career was also marred by scandals and in connection with the 2006 European Athletics Championships, the Swede was taken into custody for drunkenness and reported to the police for violence against an official.

The problems with alcohol would then become even worse after the active career ended in 2011.
– I abused alcohol every day. It was serious. When my doctor said that my liver was getting too big, I stopped, the 43-year-old admits today to SportExpressen.

Jimmy’s new life

After the shooting, Jimmy Nordin has been active with several different projects. He has been an artist and released records, he has helped start a political party, but today he lives a completely different life.

The sports profile now works as a craftsman and has a burning interest in horticulture, where he strives more towards becoming self-sufficient. Nordin has not drunk alcohol since October 2021, but his previous hard life has had serious consequences.

“Otherwise I die”

At the end of 2022, type 2 diabetes was discovered, which has made Jimmy Nordin change his life completely. The tough health news led to serious food for thought.
– Getting that diagnosis was a kick in the ass to start training again. That’s what matters, otherwise I’ll die before I turn 50, he says to the evening newspaper and says that training has become the salvation.
– I feel a huge difference in my mood. The training is cruel in that way, you become like a new person.

With all the training he’s doing now, an urge to compete has also returned. Where Nordin is now opening for a comeback to the sport and shot put at veteran level.
– I was very hungry before the corona pandemic, but it ruined everything. But now I feel that if I just get a little push and it feels fun, then I can definitely start spinning in the ring again, he reveals in the interview.
