Things are going well for Swedish volleyball.
First the Olympic gold in beach volleyball – and now a bang from the national team, which has just been resurrected.
Sweden’s men’s volleyball team defeated group favorite Spain in three straight sets in the European Championship qualifiers.
Two weeks ago, the Swedish men’s national team played their first competitive match in three years. The European Championship qualifiers started with a loss, but on Wednesday Sweden got to experience again what it’s like to win.
In Guadalajara, Spain was defeated with a clear 3–0 (25–21, 25–20, 25–19) – the first blue-and-yellow victory in a competitive context since January 2019. This means that Sweden is seriously involved in the fight for a place in European Championship 2026. All group winners and the five best group runners-up go to the championship.

The European Championship qualifiers end next autumn, with a home match against Spain and an away match against Switzerland.
For Swedish volleyball in general, the victory against Spain was another feather in the cap. As recently as two and a half weeks ago, the beach volleyball duo took Jonathan Hellvig and David Ohman Olympic gold in Paris.
