There was no Swedish winner in the sprint in Trondheim.
But that is not what arouses anger in the Swedish camp.
– I was not happy about it, says Moa Ilar to Dagbladet.
For the first time this season, there was a non-Swedish winner at the women’s World Cup sprint in Trondheim. Instead of that Norwegian Christine Stavås Ski town who delivered at home.
Norwegian victory
In any case, it was double Swedish on the podium, then Lynn Svahn came second and Emma Ribom came third. Ribom had won both sprints until the one in Trondheim. But Stavås Skistad was also one of the favorites for the day, and with the crowd behind him, the Norwegian was able to take the first World Cup victory of the season.

It was a great joy to see Linn Svahn in her best form again. In recent seasons, the 24-year-old has had a lot of injury problems, which has affected her results. This is the first season Svahn has entered without being affected by preseason injury in a long time, and it already seems to be showing.
Swedish anger
But it wasn’t all joy for the Swedes. Just before it was time to choose heats for the quarter-finals of the sprint, the Swedish riders stood in a ring and discussed tactics. Then the Norwegian broadcasting channel NRK appeared with a microphone which they held over the Swedish grouping to hear the tactics talk. It was not appreciated.
– It hung and dangled above us. They would probably eavesdrop on our tactics talk. It seemed like the whole world wanted to know what we were thinking. We have to start talking in codes, so no one understands what we say, says Linn Svahn to Dagbladet.

Next season, the World Ski Championships will be held in Trondheim. Before the World Cup competitions, NRK announced that they would test new television technologies during this weekend’s trial WC, ahead of next year’s Ski WC. But there was nothing that had been directly communicated with the Swedish national team.
– We didn’t want people to hear too many tactics. We want it for ourselves. I was not happy that the microphone arrived. We sighed and wondered why it had to be there. It’s just the way it is. It’s probably part of the sport, but sometimes I feel they might come close, she says, says Moa Ilar to the Norwegian site.

Karlsson’s opinion
Several Norwegian skiers said that it was something the skiers had to put up with, and that it was not a big deal. Frida Karlsson are somewhat on the same track.
– I don’t think it matters that much, but some people in the team wanted us to move. It is stupid of us to reveal all our secrets, says Karlsson.
