Sweden is scarily ready for the Olympic quarter-finals in the women’s team competition in table tennis.
That after a shocker against Hong Kong, which ended with 3–2 in matches.
– This was one of the best evenings of my life, says Linda Bergström to Max.
It was something of a marathon match for Sweden against Hong Kong, which was the favorite in the round of 16.
But if anyone thought it would be easy, they soon had to think again.
Swedish monster
The duo Christina Källberg and Filippa Bergand got off to a good start in the opening doubles and went up 2–0 in the set, but failed to tie the bag and fell to a 2–3 set loss.

In the singles match that followed saw Linda Bergström to level at 1–1 in matches, after defeating Zhu Chengzhu with 3–2 in the set.
Then it was Källberg’s turn to win a singles match with 3–2 in a set, against Doo Hoi Kemand Sweden took a 2–1 lead in matches.
“Im so proud”
Bergand suffered another loss, this time in three straight sets against Zhu Chengzhu – and thus everything was decided in a fifth match.

Then Bergström stepped forward again for Sweden. She was stable against Lee Ho Chingwon 3–0 in the set – and secured a Swedish breakthrough to the Olympic quarter-finals.
– This was one of the best evenings of my life. I’m so proud that we did it, says Bergström to Max after the promotion.
– It’s absolutely crazy, we’re like nothing in the table tennis world, we’re 1,000 players in Sweden on the women’s side, and we’re top 8 in the Olympics, I’m so proud, she continues.

South Korea awaits in the quarter-finals. That meeting begins tomorrow, Tuesday, 3 p.m.
