The Swedish European Championship stars remain out of training

With five days left until the European Championship premiere against the Netherlands, two of Sweden’s most important players in the European Football Championship have injuries.

For the second day in a row, Linda Sembrant and Stina Blackstenius trained on their own when the rest of the team went out on the training field in Carden Park.

For striker Blackstenius, it is still a feeling in her thigh that prevents her from training fully.

– Now that we are entering a championship, we want better endurance (in the muscle) now that we have the opportunity to give it time to repair itself, says national team doctor Houman Ebrahimi.

For Sembrant, one problem has been replaced by another. What started as a sprained foot is now a completely different problem – in the other leg.

“Long championship”

– During the final phase of her rehab, she got a feeling in her calf muscle, says Ebrahimi and continues:

– We have a long championship ahead of us, we want her to be enduring so that is what she is rehabilitating for now. The ankle itself looks good.

After Monday’s training, the forecast is similar for the two players: games in the premiere against the Netherlands on Saturday night are not yet ruled out.

Decide the day before the European Championship premiere

– That is our vision. I hope so, I am always positive and it is my job to try to fix them so they become removable for Peter (Gerhardsson, national team captain).

Neither Sembrant nor Blackstenius, who both also missed Sunday’s training, will train with the team until Thursday at the earliest. The decision on whether they can play in the premiere is further delayed.

– We will make the medical decision the day before, says Ebrahimi.
