The Swedish duo David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig win yet another major competition in beach volleyball

The successes continue for the Swedish beach volleyball pair David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig.
On Sunday night, the duo won the major Elite 16 competition after comfortably beating Italy in the final 2-0 in sets.

The tournament was played in João Pessoa, Brazil, and is part of the world tour. Åhman/Hellvig stepped in as second-ranked behind the Czechs Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner.

However, the Czech Republic went out in the quarter-finals against the Italian pair Samuele Cottafava and Paolo Nicolai – the same opposition that awaited Sweden in the final.

Once there, there was no talking. The Swedes won the first set 21–11. The second was taken after some effort with 21–18.

The tournament victory was the end of a fine week for the blue and yellow pair, who started it by being selected for this summer’s Olympics in Paris.

However, the duo is not completely finished as additional ranking points are required to book a ticket. But the victory in Brazil strengthens the Swedes’ Olympic shares considerably.

David Ohman and Jonathan Hellvig are also nominated as team of the year at the Sports Gala after a year that included, among other things, World Cup silver and defended European Championship gold.

Next up is the season-ending world tour final in Doha, Qatar. It will be played December 6–9.
