The Swedish national team has suffered from illness during the WC.
This could mean that Stina Nilsson is summoned to Oberhof in a flash.
– We have to evaluate what phase they are in at home, says national team coach Johannes Lukas to DN.
Just a few hours before the start of Sunday’s hunt, the shock news came for Sweden in the middle of the Biathlon World Cup. The blue-yellow big star Elvira Öberg woke up with a sore throat and was both isolated from the rest of the team and had to throw in the towel for the start of the hunt.
Öberg is missing
This leaves only four healthy skaters on the women’s side in the Swedish WC squad. Therefore, it may now be appropriate to call another skater to the German Oberhof to strengthen the team with Hanna Öberg, Lynn Persson, Anna Magnusson and Mona Brorsson.

Elvira Öberg has tested negative for covid-19 anyway, but concerns are growing about whether she can ride any more in this championship.
“I am absolutely devastated that once again this season I cannot get to the start,” writes Öberg himself in a post on Instagram.
“I woke up with a sore throat this morning and it really hurts to miss part of this championship. Right now there is not much more I can do but rest and take care of myself.”

Nilsson to the WC?
Add to that that the rules for the Biathlon World Cup have changed and that you can register five skiers now, and there is a place available in little sister Öberg’s absence. And it can now open up to any of Stina Nilsson, Tilda Johansson and Johanna Skottheim who remains at home in Sweden.

But recently, both Johansson and Skottheim have been ill with covid-19, which opens up more for a return for Nilsson in the national team squad again.
– We don’t have too many variants at the moment, says the national team coach John Luke to Dagens Nyheter.
– The most important thing is to protect this group as much as possible, while at the same time we have to evaluate what phase they are in at home.

– Yes, but we have many other girls too, he tells the daily.
The ladies’ next competition during the Biathlon World Cup is on Wednesday when it is time for the distance race. Then the relay awaits, when Sweden must have four healthy skiers to start, on Saturday and the final mass start on Sunday.
