Sweden went out with a bang against England.
Now the Swedish coach Jonas Eidevall points out what may have fallen blue-yellow.
– It became clear, he says.

It was an EC tournament that the Swedish ladies quickly want to forget. At least the last game – the semi-final against England. The Swedes were overrun by the home crowd and lost by a whopping 4–0, and then left the pitch with teary eyes.

The Swedish move before the EC

Afterwards, Sweden was heavily criticized for the big loss. And above all as a result of the cocky performance the national team made before the championship in England.

When Sweden launched their match shirt, they also released a website called “How to stop Sweden”. There, the national team had, among other things, a guide in 26 steps about Sweden’s strengths.

Precisely the cocky jargon before the championship may have been decisive for Sweden, and what brought the Swedes down in the semi-finals.

“Became clear”

– It became quite clear when you looked at it as an outsider that it was when the level of demand became as high as it did. It’s always hard when you can’t live up to the image that you and others have, says Swedish Arsenal coach Jonas Eidevall.

The 39-year-old also says that there were more decisive factors. Several players were withdrawn with injury problems, and the coronavirus found its way into the Swedish squad.

– They didn’t get the continuity that they actually built their success around in recent years. That in combination with the fact that you had a higher level of demands on yourself. Overall, that combination was unfortunate for the performances, says Eidevall.
