The Swede’s success – leading before the stars

But on the classic Old Course at St Andrews, it was a Swede who was sharpest on the first day.

Sebastian Söderberg got off to a flying start, to say the least. On his first eight holes, the Swede accounted for an almost improbable seven birdies.

With that, he was ahead of Ryder Cup stars such as Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick and Robert MacIntyre.

Söderberg cooled down a bit and had to settle for signing for 64 shots, eight under par.

With that, he tops the competition together with LIV player Peter Uihelin (USA) and Spaniard Adi Arnaus after the first day’s play.
