The Swedes pushed away the medal chances – when France owned the sprint

France, France and more France.

This is how the first individual race of the world championships ended in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic. Hanna Öberg was the best Swede.

– It will be a good starting position for the start of the hunt, says Öberg in SVT.

Hanna Öberg had a silver medal from last year’s WC sprint to defend, but there was a failure in the standing shooting and when the speed under the skis was also not enough, the Swede had to settle for a top ten placing.

– It’s a tough race. I think that today we really get to feel that there is a fluoride ban. I think I have done my part, given the conditions today. It’s the shooting, for it to be a top race I would have been more efficient, says Öberg.

The result in the sprint is the basis for the starting order in Sunday’s chase start.

– You really had to fight, I’m a little bit behind the first, but I still think it will be a good starting position for the start of the hunt.

Julia Simon, France, won, ahead of compatriots Justine Braisaz-Bouchet and Lou Jeanmonnot.
