The Swede’s new job: Denmark’s national team captain

Denmark’s national team captain Heinz Ehlers said barely two months ago that the Ice Hockey World Cup in May will be his last championship.

Since then, the association has been looking for the 57-year-old’s replacement.

In Sweden, they found the right person for the job: Mikael Gath.

– I expect that we will get a person who will make Danish ice hockey take the next step, says Theis Møller, chairman of the association’s elite sports committee, to Danish TV2.

Gath comes closest from five seasons in the current hockey Allsvenskan club Kristianstad. Previously, he has, among other things, been a coach in the Danish Odense and an assistant in the SHL club Rögle.

Mikael Gath has signed a three-year contract and will start his new job after the WC in Finland.
